PRODUCER SPOTLIGHT: TASHA CATOUR

by Natalie Sears

You might recognize this producer, songwriter, and audio engineer from her feature in the 2012 hit song “Rider,” by Future. Tasha Catour is more than just her catchy, glittery delivery on this track’s verse; she is a multi-faceted artist with a diverse and impressive set of skills that have landed her producer roles for Scotty ATL, Keke Palmer, Swift, Coca Vango, and Ty Dolla $ign. Tasha Catour is currently signed to the Poetic Pen Music Group, an independent music publishing company established in 1994.

Catour has a long history with music — the 29-year-old spent her childhood singing in the choir at her church, then released her first song at the age of 16. In 2011, she finalized her Poetic Pen mixtape, which showcased her collaborations with a wide variety of artists from Atlanta’s underground and flourishing rap scene, including Rick Ross.

While her forte is laying down beats and verses for the hottest rap and hip-hop tracks, Catour won a Grammy in 2013 for her contributions to Lacrae’s album, Gravity, which won Best Gospel Album. Seems like all those years in her church’s choir paid off.
