New Wave with Nova Wav

Beyonce told us a long time ago who runs the world………..GIRLS! And yet people still seem so surprised when a woman, or women, emerge in a male dominated industry. The latest industry to be shaken by the increasing presence of girl power is the music industry; more specifically the music production side of the music industry. As a new wave of producers come to town, allow us to introduce you, if you’re not already familiar, to Nova Wav.

Songwriting and production duo Brittany “Chi” Coney and Denisia “Blu June” Andrews hail from Florida, but according to a recent interview with the LA Times, their production partnership began nine years ago in Atlanta. Their first big break came in 2012, when they got the call to co-write Rihanna’s “Love Song”, and they’ve been on a roll ever since.

Coney told LA times, “It’s been a lot of people not wanting to give us any room,”. “Walking into studio sessions, the guys just assume that we’re only there to write and not to produce. It’s been super tough.”

Well, as they say ‘hard work does not go unnoticed’. As a matter of fact, their hard work got them invited to seats at the table of music royalty, with Mr. and Mrs. Carter. Coney and Andrews worked on the “Everything is Love” album, “The Lion King: The Gift”, subsequently the “Black is King” visuals, as well as “Black Parade”.

In a touching IG caption, as an image of Beyonce singing “Nile” plays in the video, Andrews wrote “Heavy on the THANK U GOD. What an honor to celebrate my people with an incomparable visionary. Thank you for always allowing me to lend my gift to you @beyonce”.

I think we should all celebrate and thank Nova Wav for boldly stepping into this male dominated industry with all of their fierce feminine power, giving our daughters heroes to admire, and our sons leaders to follow.
