Announcing Gender Amplified’s Label, “The Deck”, and the Signing of Rapper, Genesis Be

We are happy to announce the launch of Gender Amplified’s record label The Deck. Our mission as a non-profit organization has always been to support and encourage women in the music industry, focusing on amplifying the visibility of those already in the industry, and the launch of The Deck is a natural next step in achieving this goal.

In conjunction with our launch, we are beyond excited to announce our first signing: Genesis Be. Genesis Be, from Biloxi, Mississippi , is an activist and rapper who gained national attention following her powerful protest during a performance at New York City’s S.O.B. venue. Her protest came after Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant declared April as Confederate Heritage Month and earned her coverage in Billboard, NY Daily News, ABC News, VICE Impact and other media sources. Genesis Be incorporates themes of activism into her music and explores race dynamics, queer identity, and sensuality. Be is debuting her upcoming album People Not Things in March of 2019. She describes her album as “a sensual endeavor that uses lyricism and melodic rap to explore my past & present relationships with women. The visuals of PNT explore femme energy in a multi-faceted way. In rap and pop mainstream, relationships between women are often explored in an exploitative or derogatory way. I wanted to create a realistic experience that explores the nuances of our relationships…the heartbreak, the tension, the passion, the fear, the touch, the transcendence.”

Her album lists Gender Amplified’s Founder, Ebonie Smith, as Executive Producer. Smith says of Genesis Be, “[She] is giving voice to a community that deserves to see itself on display. Her music speaks truth to power, and she helps usher in change by simply being who she is.”
